“Guru Poornima is meant for getting a ‘smãrakam’ (remembrance) of our Guru.
The Sun was out shining forth mildly after a cloudy weather for the past few days. The Campsite of our Guru Maharaj was decorated beautifully with ‘kolam’. Mango leaves, sign of festivity, strung on thread were tied at the threshold. Premika Varadan-Madhuri Sakhi, occupying the hall on the first floor, were still behind the curtain. Huge ‘kolams’ bordered with ‘chemman’ had been drawn in the center of the hall. A magnificent wooden armchair had been decorated to receive our Guru Maharaj. A small and beautiful ‘kolam’ had been drawn just in front of this ‘peetah’. Devotees awaited Guru Maharaj with bated breath. Dressed in a simple orange-bordered white cotton dhoti and matching ‘angavastra’, our Guru Maharaj was out with the devotees from 5 a.m.
5.15 a.m. Guru Maharaj was offered a garland of jasmine flowers mixed with rose by Sri Sankaran. Another devotee lovingly offered a garland of lemon. (In His discourse on ‘Aksharamanamalai’ our Guru Maharaj has mentioned the reason for offering lemon to God or our Guru. Of all vegetables/fruits it is only lemon that does not change taste. It tastes the same before and after ripening. Likewise, our relationship with God/Guru should always be the same - congenial. Moreover, lemon is yellow in colour. Yellow is a sign of auspiciousness.)
Sri Sankaranarayanan (Bangalore) offered a beautiful garland to Guru Maharaj and then along with his wife very enthusiastically performed ‘Pãda abhishekha’ and ‘Pãda puja’ for our Guru Maharaj.
At the behest of Guru Maharaj, his devotee and disciple Ms.Janani sang
5.40 a.m. The host devotee Sri Sankaran and his wife very devotedly performed ‘Pãduka-Pãda’(!) abhishekha for our Guru Maharaj! It was indeed a rare Darshan! The host had placed our Guru Maharaj’s Pãduka at His Lotus Feet and performed ‘abhishekha’ and ‘archana’ to both the Lotus Feet of our Guru and His Pãduka, all at once! The Lotus Feet on the ‘Silver kavacha-Pãduka’ was a breathtaking sight. An elderly couple, devotees of Guru Maharaj, performed “Ashtotra-Archana” to the PAADUKA-PAADA.
As early as 5.00 a.m. devotees began pouring in at Guru Maharaj’s campsite to have His darshan and receive His Blessings on this special occasion. 6.00 a.m. Sri Mruthyunjaya Sarma performed ‘prabodhanam’. 6.40 a.m. - 9.00 a.m. Guru Maharaj performed abhishekha to Maha Periyava’s Pãduka and Salagrãma as the Vidyãrthiis of our Sandeepani Gurukulam chanted from the Upanishads (Sikshãvalli). Guru Maharaj then performed archana for Premika Varadan-Madhuri Sakhi. Guru Maharaj blessed the devotees with ‘teertha prasad’.
Guru Maharaj blessed all the devotees with ‘akshadai’ (rice mixed with ‘kumkum’ and turmeric). 7.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m. Guru Maharaj was present at the Ramayana discourse by Sri Siva Subrahmanyam.
9.10 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. Sri Kalyanakrishnan, devotee and disciple of Guru Maharaj performed ‘Pãda puja’ to our Guru Maharaj. Sri Kalayanakrishnan performs ‘Pãda puja’ on every Poornima. Srimathi Jayanti Janakiraman and Sangeetha Janakiraman sang ‘Vijayi bhavatu Gurunatah’ and several other Guru Kirtans. Sri Kalyanakrishnan performed “Ashtotra-Archana” to the Lotus Feet of Guru Maharaj. Our Guru Maharaj very benevolently accepted the offering of flowers at His Lotus Feet by all the devotees present.
9.45 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. The very special day was fittingly brought to a close with Nãmasankirtan. Guru Maharaj participated in the Divya Nãmasankirtan in His devotee Sri Jayaraman’s residence at 11th Main Road, Malleswaram.
At Campsite,
The host, Sri Sankaran and his wife performed “Pãduka -Pãda puja” similar to Guru Poornima day. This was followed by “Ashtotra-Archana” to the “Pãduka-Pãda”. During His stay in Bangalore, Guru Maharaj visited several homes of the local devotees and blessed them. Ashtapati was rendered and Radhya Kalyanam performed on/at
