Unto that GURU I prostrate!
Whose grace has no parallel and can never ever be returned even if served for 'janmas' fourteen!

Once Atthuzhãi, the daughter of Sri Periyanambigal (Guru of Sri Ramanuja) was pregnant. Being pregnant she had difficulty doing strenuous domestic chores and told her mother-in-law about her inablility to do those tasks. Her mother-in-law teasingly asked her if she had brought a servant with her as dowry to help her with the household work. Hurt by her mother-in-law's words, Atthuzhãi notified her father, Sri Periyanambigal about the incident. He asked her to inform about the happening to Sri Ramanuja. On hearing that, Sri Ramanuja ordained his disciple Mudaliãndãn to go with Atthuzhãi and help her with her domestic chores. Abiding the words of his Guru, Mudaliãndãn served Atthuzhãi by carrying water for her, washing the vessels, cooking and doing almost all and sundry jobs.

Ignorant of the stature of Mudaliãndãn, the in-laws of Atthuzhãi chose to disregard him. But once they came to know who he was, they begged his forgiveness and said, “Swami! We did not know who you were till this day and thus behaved insolently. We deeply regret our deeds and are ready to do the jobs on our own. We promise not to burden Atthuzhãi henceforth. Please be kind enough and stop doing the work from now on.” But Mudaliãndãn humbly stated, “Mother! I am doing this job by the order of my Guru and hence have no right to stop myself from doing this.” Seeing the unrelenting devotion of Mudaliãndãn, the in-laws carried their request to Sri Ramanuja. Heeding to their request, Sri Ramanuja, called back his disciple.

Many such disciples scrupulously carry out the words of Guru unmindful of the difficulties. They do their job as a service to their Guru disregarding their personal preferences. Such is their Guru Bhakti!

Let us pray to our beloved Guru to bestow upon us such Guru Bhakti!
