Do not speak lies

In the Metropolis of Chennai was a building housing many apartments. People living here belonged to various walks of life. In one of these apartments, there lived a couple by name Ganesh and Lalitha. Sri Vidya was their only child. The little girl was petted and pampered by her parents. Ganesh and Lalitha held high positions in the government.
Sri Vidya was around nine years of age. Every evening returning early from school she used to stay all alone until her parents returned from work. There was nothing to fear as the building had a watchman and all the apartments were occupied.
One evening, bolting the doors from within, Sri Vidya contacted the fire services over the telephone on an emergency call for saving her from fire caught in her apartment. When the fire servicemen rushed she opened the door. Clapping her hands she laughed at them. The fire servicemen asked her, “Where is the fire? What has happened?” She laughed at them and said, “I have fooled all of you!” The neighbours had by then gathered around. Since she was a little girl the fire servicemen left her with a warning and cautioning her that she should not play such pranks anymore.
After a month, one evening when Sri Vidya was all alone at home, there was a gas leakage from the stove in the kitchen which led to a fire in the apartment. Sri Vidya shouted for help. Unable to open the door and rush out, she cried, “Help! Help! Fire! Fire!” The neighbours mistook it to be her usual trick. When the little girl’s parents returned home, they had to break open the door as there was no response to their knocking or ringing the doorbell. They found their beloved child Sri Vidya charred to death.
Children! From this we should learn that we should not speak lies even playfully. If we do, people
will not trust us even when speak the truth.
