Ucchishtam
Leaf - 14
The 'Ucchishtam' of the Guru
is His Words/Upadesas!
Sri Swamiji -
(In Devikalotram Discourse)
The worst of all vices is moving away from your spiritual path. The purpose of creation
is only attainment of Bhagavãn/Ãtma sãkshãtkãra. Therefore, every time you move away from your spiritual path you are committing the worst crime!
Do not be a burden to Mother Earth. When do you become a burden to Prithvi (Earth)?
Whenever you fail to chant/sing Bhagavan Nãma or do Ãtma vichãra! If you chant/
sing Bhagavan Nãma or do Ãtma vichãra you cease to be a burden to her!

The Translation:
Pallavi
Oh! Mind! Do not wander here and there!
Stay unswerving at the feet of Krishna!
Charanams
What have you achieved till now by all your wanderings? (Nothing indeed!).
Had you known this earlier, great joy would have been yours!
Give up 'I' and 'Mine'(The Ego)!
Give yourself up totally to Krishna!
Let go your unwanted worries!
Fasten to the words of Krishna! (The Bhagavad Gita).
Live in this world bereft of any attachments!
Hold onto Sri Muralidhara always!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

One who desires to prosper further and further
should remain with
and
serve a Mahãpurusha
even if
treated like a slave!
In spite of
being stamped by the Lotus Feet (of Lord Rama)
the Pãduka
served Him assiduously,
thus
in course of time
the Pãduka was rewarded the crown
of Ayodhya!
