A Mahãtma lived in Calutta (‘Kolkotha’) in the pre-independence days. He worshipped the Devi according to Tantric system. The people there could, therefore, not comprehend his style of life. They filed a case against him in Calcutta High court where an Englishman was the presiding Judge.
The British Judge asked the Mahãtma, “ You have been accused of blasphemy and a case has been filed against you. You, however, are refuting the accusations and say that they are false. How am I to believe your words?”
The Mahãtma said to the Judge, “Well! Are you facing any problem in your life? If you would confide in me I will solve the problem for you”.
The Judge then spoke out, “My family is in London. But for a long time now I have not heard from them. Could you please get me some news about them?”
The Mahãtma said to the Judge, “Please have me locked up in a room for a while!”
The Mahãtma came out after a time with a letter from the Judge’s family in London!
In that letter the family had informed that they were fine. Due to heavy rains
and storm all communications had been cut off and that was the reason
that they were unable to communicate. The British Judge was astounded.
After sometime when communictions were restored he received news from his family.
In it they had said that an Indian Sadhu had met them in person and had taken a letter from them.
On receiving this piece of information, the British Judge not only
released the Sadhu but also gave up his post and became a disciple of
the Sadhu. He then learnt Shãkta , Tantric, Kundalini yoga and practiced them. He has also written a few books on these subjects.
