Ucchishtam
Leaf - 11
The 'Ucchishtam' of the Guru
is His Words/Upadesas!
A man who avoids going to a physician due to fear of taking medications for a small abscess will
end up undergoing a major surgery for the same at a later date. Likewise one should not avoid going
to a Mahan/Bhagavan thinking about one's own shortcomings. The Charanam
(Lotus Feet) of the Mahan/Bhagavan is the only way to destroy one's sins. The Charanam
of the Mahan/Bhagavan can remove not only the sins committed already but also cleanse the
mind of such intentions.
As long as one is not sure if the one he saw was Bhagavan, one can be rest assured
that it was not Bhagavat Saakshaatkaara(Darshan of Bhagavan) because
Bhagavat Saakshaatkaaraa
does not need another's confirmation.

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.
