Does the wife receive a share of the sins (‘pãpa’) committed by the husband?

Sri Swamigal:

The Guru receives the effects of the sins committed by the disciple, the King of the citizens, the parents of the children, the husband of the wife. But the wife is in no way affected by the sins committed by her husband.

We refer to a ‘home’ enjoying the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi (‘Lakshmi Katãsha’). In reality in whose home does Mahalakshmi reside?

Sri Swamigal:

Our Shastras say that Lakshmi lives in a home -

  • that serves the Sadhus,
  • that leads a righteous life (‘sadãcharã’),
  • which is benevolent,
  • where the floors are cleansed with cow dung,
  • which has Tulasi plant, Bilwa tree,
  • filled with Sumangalis,
  • where lamp is lit at dusk,
  • where people are humble ,
  • where Nãma Sankirtana is performed,
  • which echoes with the sound of the Vedas,
  • where people are affectionate,
  • which is bereft of quarrels, tears, commotion, hatred, anger and torment.

Therefore, all such homes are ones that are filled with ‘Lakshmi Kataksha’.

Who are the Saptharishis (seven rishis) spoken of?

Sri Swamigal:

Athri, Brugu, Kutsa, Vasishta, Goutama, Kashyapa, Ãngeerasa are the Saptharishis.

The stories in the ‘Purãnãs’ show that the words uttered by men of Truth come true. Is this true?

Sri Swamigal:

A Judge in California was a man of Truth. He never uttered a lie. His judgments were never partial. One day when he reached the court none of his assistants were present. On enquiry he learnt that heavy rains were delaying them. The truthful judge jokingly wrote along with his judgment, “I order the raingod to stop rain hereafter.” From that day for another eleven years there were no rains in California! All approached him with the request, “It is because of your writing such words that it has stopped raining. Please rewrite your judgment”. The Judge wrote jokingly, “I am ordering the raingod to rain once more.” That day it poured cats and dogs! Therefore, whoever is Truthful his words will definitely come true.
