August 2, 2000    Aadi Pooram

Every year on this day of Aandal's birth, Sri Swamigal conducts 'Aandal Kalyanam' in Premika Bhavanam. So it was, this year, too. Aandal, the incarnation of 'Neela Devi', one of the three consorts of Lord Vishnu, has the unique privilege of occupying both a devotee's place (one of the 12 Alwars) and also that of a consort's - beside Lord Rangamannar blessing the devotees!

In the evening from 7.30 to 9.00 p.m. Madurai Sri T.N.Seshagopalan sang in the august presence of Sri Swamigal. Sri Seshagopalan started with raaga 'Nayaki' (Ranganayakam). The next number of 'Devagandhari' (Ksheera saagara) was followed by 'Karnaranjani' (Naamam annadu kel). In 'Mohanam' Sri Seshagopalan chose Swaagatham Krishna. Dasara krithi of 'Neeye anaatha Bandhu' - 'Subhapantuvarali' was followed by Meera Bhajan, 'Tum bin mori'. Finally, it was Subrahmanya Bharathi's 'Kakkai Chiraginilie'- (Brindavana Saaranga).
