Twenty - Four Gurus (3)

3. SPACE
The space remains undisturbed and disassociated by the
clouds that are pushed across it by the wind. Likewise,
the Atma, too, remains undisturbed and disassociated
with the body. A Yogi, though in a body, remains
unperturbed by the functions of his body as he is
ever in 'bhrama-bhava' - is fully aware of his true
identity and never associates himself with the body.
Therefore, he sees no differences and thus remains detached.
4. WATER
A Yogi is pure like the water. Love - incarnate,
he is sweet-tongued and the cause of people's prosperity(mangalam).
Just as the water purifies everything, the Yogi purifies the world
by his very Darshan (presence) , sparsam (touch) and kirtanam.
5. FIRE
The fire is bright, full of light, cannot be touched
by anyone and it cannot be corrupted by anything that is devoured by it.
Likewise, a yogi, too, is a 'tejaswi' (glows like the Sun),
shines by his 'tapas', cannot be touched by anyone and cannot
be 'infected' with anything that is consumed.
6. MOON
The moon appears to gradually lose it's form until it totally disappears
and once again regains its form gradually. In reality, the moon
remains as it is - unaffected, but it appears so to us due to the reflection
of the sun's rays on it. Likewise, the atma remains the same, unaffected
and the changes are only the reflection of the mind.
7. SUN
The Sun absorbs the water with its rays and later sends
forth the accumulated water as the rains. The yogi, too, like
the Sun, absorbs the 'gunas' (matters/issues) of his senses and
at the proper time leaves them. He does not get attached to them.
Just as the ignorant take the 'reflected suns' in the various
things like water to be the real one, so, too, do they mistake
the 'atma' (which like the sun is reflected) to be the body
seen in different forms.
