    Chandro vikaasayati kairavachakravaalam   |
Naabyarthito jaladharoapi jaladedaati
    Santa: svayam parahiteshu krutaabhiyoga:   ||

Unasked,
    the Sun makes the Lotuses bloom
    the Moon blossoms the Kumuda flowers
    the Clouds pour the water
And so
    the Sants (noble men) of their own accord
    are busy with the welfare of others.

Paapaannivaarayati, yojayate hitaaya
    Guhyam niguhati, gunaanprakatiikaroti   |
Aapadgatam cha na jahaati, dadaati kale
    Sanmitra lakshanamidam pravadanti santa:  ||

The Sants(noble men) say that a good friend is
One who
    discourages (you) from sinful acts
    recommends good deeds
    conceals the secrets
    publicises the merits
    does not depart in distress
    and helps in time of need
