A conversation with
Sri Sri Swamiji

Recently, a devotee who came to have the darshan of Sri Swamigal praised Swamigal on hearing about the Naama Kirtanam at the streets of Harijans.

Sri Swamigal looked at the devotee and said, "In the present day's context doing such things is not something surprising. Sri Marudhanallur Sathguru Swamigal did Naama Kirtanam at the street of Harijans, during his lifetime in those days when the caste barriers were really awesome."

He then went on to tell him about an interesting event which took place in Sri Marudhanallur Swamigal's life...

"Once an orthodox Brahmin saw Sri Sathguru Swamigal doing Naama Kirtanam in the streets of Harijans, collecting rice from them as Unchivriththi and blessing the people prostrating to him. That Brahmin blinded by his rigid orthodox notions grew angry at Sri Sathguru Swamigal. He went off immediately to the Brahmin's colony with a burning desire to make this observation public and to condemn such an act of Sri Sathguru Swamigal."

"When he reached the Brahmin's Colony he was startled to see Sri Sathguru Swamigal there taking Unchivriththi from the Brahmin families. He immediately rushed back to the Harijan colony and found Swamigal there too!!"

"So ordinary, banal social regulations cannot bind saints with such greatness."

The devotee left the place enlightened and delighted...
